Barnes-Jewish Hospital is affiliated with Washington University School of Medicine and BJC HealthCare, and is consistently ranked among the America’s best hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. Recognizing its excellence in nursing care, Barnes-Jewish Hospital was the first adult hospital in Missouri to be certified as a Magnet Hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). The Magnet Award is the highest level of recognition awarded for hospital nursing by the ANCC.

In 2003, new privacy rules went into effect across the country, covering health insurance companies, hospitals, clinics doctors and pharmacies. The rules prohibit disclosure, without patient permission, of information for reasons unrelated to health care. The rules are a result of a 1996 law called the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).

It is important that we answer all your questions about your insurance coverage. We have dedicated patient account and hospital registration specialists who can help you understand the admission process.

Smoking of cigarettes, cigars or pipes by patients, visitors, employees, physicians, and guests is not allowed in Barnes-Jewish Hospital facilities and vehicles; smoking is also prohibited outdoors on hospital grounds (including building entrances, sidewalks, and parking facilities/lots) except within our designated smoking areas. Our staff will direct you to our designated smoking areas which are lighted, heated and located throughout our campus.
