  • Teaching hospital affiliated with Washington University's School of Medicine. Renowned medical education programs and scientific discoveries. Barnes-Jewish Hospital is committed to medical education as the primary teaching hospital of Washington University School of Medicine.
  • First adult hospital in Missouri to be recognized as a Magnet hospital, the highest honor for excellence in nursing. Initially recognized in 2003, and redesignated in 2008.
  • First in Missouri and first in St. Louis to receive Level I verification. From the American College of Surgeons (ACS) for the Trauma Center. Barnes-Jewish Hospital is the only ACS-verified level-one trauma center in Missouri, Illinois and Arkansas. 
  • A Top Five Highly Prepared Trauma Center. Barnes-Jewish Hospital received the honor of being named one of the top five highly prepared trauma centers, in the event of a disaster, in the United States by the National Foundation for Trauma Care in September 2006. 
  • Barnes-Jewish Hospital named "Consumer Choice Winner." As designated by National Research Corporation.
  • Siteman Cancer Center. Siteman is the only cancer center in Missouri to receive the designation as a National Cancer Institute (NCI) Comprehensive Cancer Center.
  • America's Top Doctors. Washington University Physicians at Barnes-Jewish Hospital are consistently recognized by their peers as the best in their respective specialties, as listed on America's Top Doctors and The Best Doctors in America.
  • Epilepsy Center of Excellence. Barnes-Jewish Hospital’s epilepsy center is among the first three in the nation to receive certification from The Joint Commission for its efforts to care for patients with seizures.
  • Primary Stroke Center. The Joint Commission certified Barnes-Jewish Hospital as a Primary Stroke Center - the first hospital in the St. Louis area to receive the honor. Achievement of certification as a Primary Stroke Center signifies that the services at Barnes-Jewish have the critical elements to achieve long-term success in improving outcomes for stroke patients.
  • The American Society for Bariatric Surgery (ASBS). Washington University bariatric surgery program at Barnes-Jewish Hospital received the designation as an ASBS Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence in 2006.
  • Lung Volume Reduction Center of Excellence. Washington University School of Medicine lung volume reduction surgery program at Barnes-Jewish Hospital earned designation as a Center of Excellence in 2007. Certification by the Joint Commission recognizes the program’s longstanding clinical excellence, outstanding patient care and leadership in thoracic surgery.
