Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University open new outpatient facility in South County

ST. LOUIS - Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University Physicians are increasing options for patients to access outpatient care with a new 84,500-square-foot facility in south St. Louis County.

The Center for Advanced Medicine – South County opens to patients Tuesday, April 19. The facility is jointly owned by Barnes-Jewish and Washington University School of Medicine. It is located next to the Siteman Cancer Center at I-55 and Butler Hill Road.

“Barnes-Jewish Hospital and our partner, Washington University School of Medicine, are excited to provide our national leaders in medicine and the patient experience to south St. Louis and southern Illinois,” says Bob Cannon, Barnes-Jewish Hospital president. “The Center for Advanced Medicine – South County provides them a convenient and comfortable ambulatory surgery center and medical office building closer to home.”

Washington University specialists seeing patients at the Center for Advanced Medicine – South County include OB/GYN, ophthalmology, neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, internal medicine and general surgery. There are two operating rooms and two minor procedure rooms, all for outpatient procedures. Available imaging services include X-ray, CT, MRI and screening mammography. STAR: Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation, part of Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital, will be available for patients to receive treatment from experienced physical therapists.

“This new facility will be an efficient and supportive environment where patients in south St. Louis and southern Illinois can access care from many of our top-notch specialists,” said James Crane, MD, associate vice chancellor for clinical affairs and chief executive officer of Washington University Physicians.  “The Center for Advanced Medicine — South County is expanding our commitment to outstanding patient care in another part of the St. Louis region.”

Both Barnes-Jewish and Washington University are represented in the Center for Advanced Medicine – South County leadership team.

Surgical co-directors – M. Todd Rice, MD, Washington University anesthesiologist, and Steven R. Hunt, MD, Washington University colon and rectal surgeon, have been appointed surgical co-directors to lead collaboration and cooperation between sub-specialties at CAM – South County. Dr. Rice will oversee day-to-day operations of the operating room. Drs. Rice and Hunt will also serve as liaisons between hospital management and surgical departments at the School of Medicine.

WUSM clinical operations lead – Kelley Mullen, senior director of clinical operations for the Washington University Faculty Practice Plan, will be responsible for coordination of patient scheduling, daily operational needs, patient experience, and implementation of policies and procedures in Washington University clinical spaces at the CAM – South County.

Barnes-Jewish director of operations – South County – Tara Hearns has been appointed as the CAM – South County director. She is responsible for all hospital operations, including within Siteman Cancer Center South County. Hearns will work with on-site departmental managers to optimize patient flow, ensure the delivery of high quality, patient-centered care and focus on regional business development. She will coordinate closely with Mullen and Drs. Rice and Hunt.
