Treatment Options for Recurrent Esophageal Cancer

Treatment Options for Recurrent Esophageal Cancer

Sometimes esophageal cancer comes back after you’ve had treatment. In that case, the goal of treatment is usually to ease your symptoms and improve your quality of life. Depending on your situation (including where the cancer comes back and what treatments you had before), your doctor may use these standard treatments:

  • Surgery

  • Chemotherapy

  • Radiation

  • Both chemotherapy and radiation

  • Photodynamic therapy (PDT) or other endoscopic procedures

Ask your doctor about joining clinical trials of new therapies. These treatments may not only help you, but also help researchers develop new treatments for esophageal cancer.
