Shapiro Elected President of AAHC

Larry J. Shapiro, MD, the Spencer T. and Ann W. Olin Distinguished Professor, Washington University executive vice chancellor for medical affairs, dean of the School of Medicine and president of Washington University Medical Center, was named as president-elect of the Association of Academic Health Centers for 2010.

Shapiro has been internationally recognized for his significant research in human genetics, molecular biology and biochemistry.

His contributions to academic medicine include patient care, research, teaching and administration.

He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Medicine and of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. A fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Shapiro has served as president of the American Society of Human Genetics, American Board of Medical Genetics, Society for Inherited Metabolic Diseases, Society for Pediatric Research, and American Pediatric Society. Shapiro became executive vice chancellor for medical affairs and dean of the School of Medicine in July 2003.
