Kidney Transplant Support Group

The Kidney Transplant Support Group at Barnes-Jewish Hospital is designed to offer support as well as education to kidney transplant recipients (post-transplant), candidates (pre-transplant), donors, caregivers, family members and friends. By providing an opportunity for sharing information and experiences, the support group aids patients and their loved ones in coping with concerns and issues related to kidney transplant.

Participation and Knowledge
Kidney Transplant Support Group meetings allow patients and their loved ones to participate by sharing their experiences and in doing so receive emotional support and feedback from others who can relate to the impact of kidney disease. Group participants are diverse and in various stages of the transplant process. Guest speakers aim to provide increased knowledge and understanding of relevant transplant topics.

Together, group facilitators, guest speakers and participants explore the physical and emotional concerns that accompany kidney transplant. The informational discussions are designed to touch upon the individual needs of each transplant patient and his or her family and friends. Common topics discussed at meetings include:

  • The transplant process
  • Lifestyle changes caused by transplant
  • Financial and insurance concerns associated with transplant
  • Medication regimen
  • Fear of organ rejection

Unless otherwise noted, the group will meet on the second Wednesday of every other month in the 3rd floor Farrell Conference Room #1 which is located in the Center for Advanced Medicine at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Free 4 hour parking passes are provided for the North Garage.
