Your Stay After Liver Transplant

At Barnes-Jewish Hospital, liver transplant patients stay on the abdominal transplant, liver and pancreas unit, floor both before and after surgery.

The unit, nursing division 16400, is designed especially for pre- and post-transplant liver, kidney and kidney/pancreas transplant patients. • Private rooms for immune-suppressed patients
  • Larger rooms to accommodate visiting family
  • In-room touch screen TVs for patients to get photos and information about their care team, watch educational patient videos, access information about the hospital’s guest and patient services
  • Convertible sofas in some patient rooms so family can stay during unexpected hospitalizations
  • Dry-erase boards for patient and family use
  • Computers in every room so physicians and staff can chart and enter orders at the bedside

The floor also has several special features to make your hospital stay more comfortable. These include:

  • A procedure room where doctors can remove staples, put in sutures, remove drainage tubes and catheters and perform other minor procedures without having to leave the floor
