Robert L. Barrack, MD, chief of service
Robert L. Barrack, MD, is the Charles F. and Joanne Knight Distinguished Professor of Orthopedic Surgery and Chief of Adult Reconstructive Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine. He is nationally recognized for hip resurfacing procedures that preserve the hip joint.
Board-certified in orthopedic surgery, Dr. Barrack earned his medical degree in 1980 from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, TN. He completed a residency in orthopedic surgery and a fellowship in orthopedic biomaterials at Tulane University School of Medicine (and Affiliated Hospitals) in New Orleans, LA and subsequently completed an additional fellowship in hip and implant surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA in 1991. Dr. Barrack’s clinical interests include adult reconstructive surgery, hip and knee replacement, and hip resurfacing. Dr. Barrack has been listed in Best Doctors in America.
John C. Clohisy, MD
Dr. Clohisy is an Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine and the Director of the Young Adult Hip Service at Barnes-Jewish Hospital.
He specializes in hip and knee procedures and has a unique interest in the diagnosis and treatment of young adult hip problems. He and his Washington University colleagues have developed a comprehensive set of surgical and non-surgical skills to care for this unique patient population. Dr. Clohisy’s surgical expertise also includes hip arthroscopy, osteotomy, impingement procedures, hip resurfacing, and hip replacement. He is board-certified in orthopedic surgery and received his medical degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL in 1989. Following a residency in orthopedic surgery at Saint Louis University Health Sciences Center in St. Louis, he completed a fellowship in adult hip and knee reconstructive surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA in 1997. He also completed an orthopedic research fellowship at Saint Louis University School of Medicine.
Douglas McDonald, MD, MS
Dr. McDonald is Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine. A board-certified and nationally recognized orthopedic surgeon specializing in musculoskeletal oncology and oncological orthopedic surgery, Dr. McDonald’s expertise lies in the diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant bone tumors, Ewing’s sarcoma, and limb salvage surgery of the extremities as well as reconstructive surgery of the hip.
Dr. McDonald earned his medical degree from the University of Minnesota in Rochester, MN in 1978 and a master’s of science degree in orthopedic surgery from the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in 1982. Dr. McDonald completed both his residency in orthopedic surgery and a fellowship in orthopedic oncology at Mayo Graduate School of Medicine. He also completed an additional fellowship in orthopedic surgery at the Istituto Ortopedico Rizzoli at the Universita Di Bologna in Italy. Dr. McDonald has been listed in America’s Top Doctors.
Ryan Nunley, MD
Dr. Nunley is Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine. He received his undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN, and his medical degree from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He completed his residency at the Washington University School of Medicine. Dr. Nunley completed a Health Policy Fellowship from the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons in Washington, DC as well as a fellowship in Joint Preservation, Resurfacing and Replacement at Washington University School of Medicine.
Dr. Nunley's clinical interests include total joint replacement surgery (hip and knee), total hip resurfacing, minimally invasive hip replacement, osteotomies about the hip, hip joint debridement, hip osteoplasty procedures and arthroscopy of the hip, hip disorders of the adolescent and young adult, including hip dysplasia; Perthes deformities, avascular necrosis, labral tears, and early arthritic hip joint problems.
Rick W. Wright, MD
Dr. Wright is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and serves as an Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine. Recognized for his sports medicine expertise, Dr. Wright also is the team physician for both the St. Louis Blues hockey and the St. Louis Rams football teams.
Dr. Wright earned his medical degree from the University of Missouri in 1988. Following a residency in orthopedic surgery at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN, he completed a fellowship in sports medicine at the Minneapolis Sports Medicine Center in 1999. His special interests include knee ligament reconstruction, shoulder instability, rotator cuff repair and arthroscopy.
