Spine Deformities

The Washington University and Barnes-Jewish Spine Center specialists have helped pioneer innovative surgical techniques to treat spine deformities in adolescents and younger adults. These techniques can achieve greater correction of the spinal deformity with less invasive techniques and achieve a higher fusion rate than what is reported in the literature and by other centers.

Our orthopedic surgeons and neurosurgeons also are skilled at using spinal implants to straighten the spine in both new patients and in those who have had previous failed surgeries to correct complex spine deformities such as scoliosis, kyphosis and spondylolisthesis.

To make highly complex spine reconstruction cases safer, a procedure pioneered by Washington University spine specialists at Barnes-Jewish Hospital allows surgeons to accurately monitor the path of spinal cord and nerve routes. Our spine specialists are among the few in the country able to perform this advanced spinal cord monitoring.
