Living in St. Louis

St. Louis is an exciting city with a rich history and a promising future. Hosting a population of more than 2.8 million, the metropolitan area offers a wide variety of cultural and recreational opportunities. There are 26 institutions of higher learning in the area, as well as libraries, museums, professional drama and opera theaters, a dance company and the second oldest symphony orchestra in the nation. For sports spectators, St. Louis is home of the St. Louis Cardinals Major League Baseball team, the St. Louis Blues in the National Hockey League, and, last but not least, the St. Louis Rams in the National Football League. One of the city's major attractions, Forest Park, is adjacent to the Washington University Medical Center, in an area of the city called the Central West End. Originally the site of the 1904 World's Fair, Forest Park is a 1,400-acre expanse of greenery and recreation facilities and has paths for running and cycling, tennis courts, an ice-skating rink, athletic fields, and three golf courses. Forest Park is also the site for the St. Louis Zoo, the second largest zoo in the country, the St. Louis Science Center, the Muny, the nation's oldest and largest outdoor theater, as well as the St. Louis Art Museum and Missouri History Museum.
