We offer Botox, as well as Dysport to treat frown lines and other facial and neck wrinkles and bands, as well as excessive sweating in the palms and armpits. We also use Botox to help improve the balance between the sides of the face following paralysis of the facial nerve (facial nerve palsy).
Botox takes only minutes to inject, and works for 3 to 4 months. It works by paralyzing the injected muscles of facial expression. By keeping these muscles still, the overlying skin does not wrinkle and the crease disappears. Botox is most commonly used in the low central forehead between the eyes, to help gently raise the eyebrows and reduce forehead creases, to help plump the lips and remove some of the wrinkles around the mouth, and to treat cords or bands in the neck.
Botox can also be used to reduce excessive armpit and palm sweat by blocking sweat gland function. It is effective for several months before it needs to be repeated to maintain its benefits.
Dysport is another version of Botox. Like Botox, Dysport is also known as Botulinum toxin serotype A. However, there are some subtle differences between BoTox and Dysport as they are formulated differently. Dysport may have a slightly faster onset of action and is dosed differently. Some patients prefer one agent to the other but they are used to treat the same conditions.
