NEW SITEMAN FACILITY IN WEST COUNTY

New Siteman Facility Opens at Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital

The Siteman Cancer Center has opened a new facility on the campus of Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital. The new facility features expanded treatment space, with 14 exam rooms and 28 chemotherapy chairs.

The facility, which moved to Medical Office Building 2 this summer from a smaller location near the hospital campus, also features a family lounge area with wireless Internet access, a resource center with brochures and computers for Web searches, and plans for a healing garden.

The additional space allows us to serve our patients and families better,” says Washington University medical oncologist and medical director Steven Sorscher, MD. “Their input during the design process helped us tailor the facility to meet their needs.”

Currently, medical oncology services are offered in the new center. In March 2009, patients will be able to receive radiation therapy, following the installation of a linear accelerator capable of delivering image-guided therapy and a new CT scanner for treatment planning.

Washington University surgeons who specialize in treating gastrointestinal, lung and urological cancers will continue to see patients in existing offices on the hospital campus, making it possible to receive comprehensive services in one location.
