Our Professional Governance Model
Barnes-Jewish Hospital recognizes the importance of involving nurses in decisions that impact their practice and the patient care environment. Through a variety of unit-based and hospital-wide interdisciplinary teams, nurses can partner with leadership in making decisions about the practice environment and professional development.
Through participation in these councils, staff gain confidence and develop competence to work in teams to achieve better patient outcomes.
This shared decision-making, or professional governance is an essential element in our professional practice models.
The Nursing Collaborative Council provides an environment whereby professional nurses confidently engage in meaningful conversation and action planning with the CNO and other leaders regarding issues affecting professional nursing practice to promote excellence in nursing care and a healthy work environment in which their care providers practice. The Nursing Collaborative Council monitors and supports the professional governance practice environment, promoting alignment of council goals and actions with nursing and organizational strategic plans.
Other councils include:
- Evidence-Based Practice and Research
