Clergy, theological students, members of religious orders, and lay persons are eligible to apply for a unit of CPE. All applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from an institution accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or Association of Theological Schools (ATS), and a master’s degree in divinity, theology, or the equivalent or related field from a CHEA-accredited institution. For one-unit students, this degree may be in progress.
After completing an application, a candidate for the program may be invited for an admission interview. Students must meet all criteria, write a graduate-level application, and show that they can be reflective. This interview provides an opportunity for students to ask questions and discuss educational goals, and provides time for the interviewers to discuss the application, engage the interviewee as a person and learner, and to assess readiness for CPE. The personal interview will be held with at least three people who are familiar with CPE and with your application material. These three or more people may include the ACPE educator, Spiritual Care and CPE manager, members of the Professional Advisory Group, or Spiritual Care staff.

The front of the CPE application requests information about your name, address, education, and references. The back of the form asks you to describe yourself, discuss your religious development, and describe a time in which you helped someone. Your application will be several pages long.
