ST .LOUIS – The St. Louis Cardinals and the Siteman Cancer Center announced that they have raised more than $57,000 for cancer research from the sale of special Cardinals baseball hats with a multi-colored ribbon symbolizing cancer awareness.

For each hat sold as part of the teams “Tip of the Cap” promotion, $10 of the proceeds went directly to the Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine to help fund Cancer research. The cap has been sold throughout the season at the Cardinals Team Store run by the team’s concessionaire Delaware North Companies Sportservice.

“We were honored to partner with the Siteman Cancer Center and Sportservice to support such an important cause,” said William DeWitt III, President of the Cardinals. “It was great to see our fans embrace this promotion and help support the fight against cancer.”

“Research is our chance to conquer cancer,” said Timothy Eberlein, MD, director of the Siteman Cancer Center. “Federal research grants cannot fully cover the depth and breadth of our programs. We thank the Cardinals, Sportservice and especially the fans who share the vision where cancer no longer devastates the lives of patients and their loved ones.”

The Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine is an international leader in cancer treatment, research, prevention, education and community outreach. The Siteman Cancer Center is the only cancer center in Missouri and within a 240-mile radius of St. Louis to hold the prestigious Comprehensive Cancer Center designation from the National Cancer Institute, as well as being a member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network.
