Barbara Liberman is former principal keyboardist for the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. She is also the loving niece of the late Alvin Goldfarb, generous namesake of Goldfarb School of Nursing at Barnes-Jewish College. Barbara’s passion for music inspired other members of the Liberman, Rudman, and Weinstein families to join her in honoring their uncle’s legacy by donating a beautiful Yamaha grand piano to the college.
“A piano seemed a perfect fit for making the Goldfarb School of Nursing a center for uniting music and its healing powers,” says Liberman. Students and faculty are enjoying the instrument, available for their own use or for concerts that relax and rejuvenate.
Liberman, a native of St. Louis, started playing the piano when she was four and performed her first radio concert at six. She also gave the first performance on the day that the piano was installed at the college—a spontaneous interpretation of Chopin that filled the atrium of Goldfarb Hall.
