Siteman Cancer Center
The Alvin J. Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine is an international leader in cancer treatment, research, prevention, education and community outreach. It is the only cancer center in Missouri and within 240 miles of St. Louis to hold the prestigious Comprehensive Cancer Center designation from the National Cancer Institute, which also has awarded Siteman an “exceptional” rating, the highest possible by the NCI. U.S. News & World Report consistently ranks the cancer center among the best in the nation.
Siteman offers the expertise of more than 450 Washington University research scientists and physicians who provide care for 12,000 newly diagnosed cancer patients each year, making Siteman one of the largest U.S. cancer centers.
A full range of advanced diagnostic and treatment services are available for patients with all types of cancer. These services are provided at Siteman’s main campus at Washington University Medical Center and at five satellite facilities throughout the St. Louis metropolitan region, including in Illinois.
Scientists and physicians affiliated with Siteman receive more than $170 million annually in cancer research and related training grants. The results of basic laboratory research are rapidly incorporated into treatment advances. This process is enhanced by patient access to more than 400 therapeutic clinical studies, including many collaborative efforts with other leading cancer centers throughout the country.
