ST. LOUIS — Barnes-Jewish Hospital and its physician partners at Washington University School of Medicine are once again listed among the nation’s elite medical centers in U.S. News & World Report’s annual list of “Best Hospitals,” and are again ranked No. 1 in both the St. Louis metro area and Missouri.

“Only an elite few hospitals in the country can say they are on the Honor Roll – we are proud to belong to this prestigious group for 22 consecutive years,” says Rich Liekweg, BJH president. “Our patients, whether from the local region, the Midwest or beyond, have access to one of the nation’s best hospitals right here in St. Louis. Our status is a direct reflection of the dedication to high quality and compassionate patient care displayed every day by our Washington University physicians, our nurses and each member of the Barnes-Jewish team.”

For the 22nd straight year, Barnes-Jewish earned honors as part of the newsmagazine’s “Honor Roll.” This year’s Honor Roll highlights 17 hospitals out of nearly 5,000 nationwide for their expertise in treating the most challenging patients across a range of medical specialties.

“The data tell the story – an Honor Roll hospital has much to be proud of,” says U.S. News Health Rankings Editor Avery Comarow. “Just 144 hospitals, or about 3 percent of the nearly 5,000 we evaluated, earned national ranking in even one specialty, let alone put up top scores in six specialties.”

Barnes-Jewish was ranked nationally in 13 of the 16 specialties. The rankings have been published at http://health.usnews.com/best-hospitals and will appear in print in the U.S. News “Best Hospitals 2015” guidebook, available in August.

The methodology U.S. News uses to rank 12 of 16 specialties is based on a mathematical model combining reputation, mortality rate, patient safety, and care-related factors such as nursing and patient services. Four remaining specialties – ophthalmology, psychiatry, rehabilitation, and rheumatology – are ranked solely based on their reputation among specialists.
