ST. LOUIS - Michael R. Bleich, PhD, RN, NEA-BC, FAAN, has been named the next dean of the Goldfarb School of Nursing at Barnes-Jewish College. Dr. Bleich has extensive nursing leadership experience, most recently from Oregon Health & Science University School of Nursing (OHSU) where he served as Dr. Carol A. Lindeman distinguished professor of nursing, dean, school of nursing and vice provost for interprofessional education and development. He will begin his new role at the Goldfarb School of Nursing on August 13.

Previously, Dr. Bleich worked for the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan., where he served as associate dean and professor, clinical and community affairs for the school of nursing; chair and professor, department of health policy and management for the school of medicine; and chief operating officer/chief executive officer for KU Health Partners.

With extensive teaching and speaking experience at all levels of nursing education, Dr. Bleich is a nationally recognized speaker on nursing trends and issues. He also holds numerous awards and honors, including the 2011 Luther Christman Award by the American Assembly for Men in Nursing given for meritorious service to the role of men in nursing and service to the profession and was the only dean of nursing to serve on the Institute of Medicine (IOM) Committee that issued the 2011 IOM Report, The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health: Milestone and Challenges in Expanding Nursing Science.
Dr. Bleich has a PhD in human resource development from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a Master of Public Health in patient care administration/nursing from the University of Minnesota. He attended the St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing in Racine, Wis. and earned his BSN at Milton College in Milton, Wis.
Goldfarb School of Nursing at Barnes-Jewish College is located on the campus of Washington University Medical Center in St. Louis and is affiliated with Barnes-Jewish Hospital, with a site at Missouri Baptist Medical Center. The College is housed in a nationally recognized educational facility with state-of-the-art classrooms, lecture halls and a Clinical Simulation Institute with six patient simulation labs and two exam rooms providing high-tech, advanced nursing care experiences.
Goldfarb School of Nursing at Barnes-Jewish College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and is approved by the Missouri State Board of Nursing.
