ST. LOUIS -- In the spirit of advancing its mission and focusing on its purpose, the charitable giving arm of Barnes-Jewish Hospital is reintroducing itself as The Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

“We’re changing our name because we exist solely to help donors make a difference for the people served by Barnes-Jewish Hospital,” says Julia Ruvelson, vice president of The Foundation. “By emphasizing the Barnes-Jewish name, we acknowledge that The Foundation is the mechanism for giving — but not the reason that donors give to help enrich lives, save lives and transform patient care at Barnes-Jewish Hospital.”

Adds Ruvelson, “When people give to the Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital, their gifts are even more significant because we are part of one of America’s top hospitals — a national leader in medicine through innovative research and treatment, world-class education, and compassionate patient care. A gift to The Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital is a gift where care matters most.”

One of the people who gives where care matters most is Keith Guller, a Foundation board member and heart patient.

“It’s hard to describe the fear that grips you when you go from being healthy one day to needing open heart surgery the next,” Guller says. “But from the moment I learned I had a serious heart problem, the physicians at Barnes-Jewish answered all my questions and explained all my options. They constantly reassured my wife and family during my surgery. Every doctor, nurse and team member we met showed amazing compassion and care for us—not just me, but every member of my family. It’s extraordinary.”

“We give to The Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital because St. Louis — in fact, the Midwest — is fortunate to have a hospital that leads and excels in life-saving treatment and exceptional service for patients and their families,” Guller says. “Thanks to the people at Barnes-Jewish, I was able to dance at my daughter’s wedding.”

“It is with deep honor that The Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital joins with donors like Keith Guller to help Barnes-Jewish remain one of America’s top hospitals,” Ruvelson says. “We want everyone to know that every dollar and every donor counts when it comes to ensuring the best health care will be there for us, or someone we love, when we need it.”
