ST. LOUIS – Barnes-Jewish Hospital, in partnership with Washington University physicians, is ranked No. 1 in St. Louis on
U.S.News & World Report’s
first-ever “Best Hospitals” metro rankings .
Barnes-Jewish has been ranked among the country’s elite medical centers for 18 consecutive years as part of the annual
U.S.News
national Honor Roll of “Best Hospitals.” This is the first year
U.S.News
has ranked hospitals within a metro area. The full list of St. Louis metro area hospitals can be seen at
www.usnews.com/hospitals
.
The new rankings are meant to identify community hospitals that performed nearly as well as nationally ranked “Best Hospitals” in at least one of 16 adult specialties. Barnes-Jewish is nationally ranked in 15 of the 16 specialties.
To compile the list of metro area hospitals,
U.S.News
looked at hospitals within all 52 U.S. metro areas with populations of one million or more, using existing data from the 2010-11 “Best Hospitals” list.
The new rankings add 490 hospitals to the 132 nationally ranked “Best Hospitals” such as Barnes-Jewish. The
U.S.News
national rankings of “Best Hospitals” is still scheduled to run in July.
Barnes-Jewish Hospital is a member of BJC HealthCare, which provides a full range of health care services through its 13 hospitals and more than 100 health care sites in Missouri and Illinois. In addition to Barnes-Jewish Hospital, BJC hospitals appearing on the U.S. News metro list include Missouri Baptist Medical Center, Christian Hospital, Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital and Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital. Barnes-Jewish Hospital is also affiliated with Washington University School of Medicine, ranked as one of the nation’s top five medical schools by
