From professional athletes on the St. Louis Rams and Blues to weekend warriors and those suffering from back pain, Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University Orthopedics have partnered to provide outpatient orthopedic services in a new, efficient, patient-centered environment. The new 60,000-square-foot, $13 million orthopedic center, located in West St. Louis County and opening this summer, will conveniently offer a number of orthopedic services under one roof, including outpatient surgery, modern digital imaging, electrophysiology and pain injections.

“The center is a 21st century facility designed with patients in mind,” says Richard Gelberman, MD, Washington University orthopedic surgeon at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. “The outpatient center offers comprehensive services from compassionate, respectful professionals, and complements the superior inpatient procedures performed at Barnes-Jewish Hospital.”

All surgeons, physiatrists (physicians specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation), radiologists and anesthesiologists at the new center are Washington University physicians. Barnes-Jewish Hospital owns and operates the ambulatory surgery center, including pre-operative, operative and post-operative services and the radiology services including the MRI and general diagnostic radiology.

New Center, Same Superb Care
Whether you need outpatient surgery, physical rehabilitation following surgery or injections for back pain, the new orthopedic center will offer the high level of care you expect from Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University.

“At the new center, we remain committed to our core values of providing outstanding patient care, and we are seeking to do that in the most convenient, patient-friendly environment possible,” says Charles Goldfarb, MD, medical director of the new center and Washington University orthopedic hand, wrist and elbow surgeon at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. “Outpatients have different needs than inpatients, and we want to be mindful of patients'' time by providing all the services they need under one roof.”
