ST. LOUIS - The Community Health-In Partnership Services (CHIPS), a health and wellness center and a community partner with Barnes-Jewish Hospital, will host their 10th annual Run/Walk Community Health Festival and Anniversary Homecoming on Saturday, Sept. 18, at 2431 N. Grand Blvd. Registration is at 7 a.m., following an aerobic warm-up at 8 a.m. and the race at 8:30 a.m.

Proceeds from the event benefit healthcare for the uninsured. CHIPS allows the St. Louis metropolitan area access to primary and prevention healthcare and social services regardless of their ability to pay.

The route of the race will lead participants through surrounding North St. Louis neighborhoods and will include a competitive 5k race, a 5k noncompetitive run/walk and a one-mile fun walk.

The Barnes-Jewish Hospital Foundation provides funding to CHIPS for community health outreach programs.

“We are coming fully prepared and eager to assist in whatever ways we are needed,” says Steven Player, Pharm.D, MBA, inpatient pharmacy manager at Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

Player will attend the run/walk with about 28 students who participate in the Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Express Scripts and St. Louis College of Pharmacy (BESt) Summer Institute, a program that aims to expose and prepare local multicultural students for a career in healthcare, with an emphasis on pharmacy.

“We want to give our students an opportunity to learn what it really means to be an active participant in the community,” he says.

Advanced registration is $15 and children can register for $10. Free health screenings, live entertainment and free food will be provided throughout the day. There will also be door prizes and games and activities for children. Up to 700 people are expected to attend the event this year
