March 15, 2005, ST. LOUIS – Barnes-Jewish Hospital Foundation received $11,712,087 in donations last year to support life, health and hope for patients and their families. The Foundation received more than 10,000 gifts in cash, stock, estate and corporate gifts, as well as grants from private foundations. The 2004 total is a 19 percent increase over the $9.8 million raised in 2003.
"It is through the generous support of our many donors that we exceeded our 2004 fund-raising goal by more than $1.2 million," says W. Frank Elston, vice president of Barnes-Jewish Hospital Foundation. "Every cent contributed to the Foundation is used specifically to support the mission of Barnes-Jewish Hospital to take exceptional care of people. We are grateful to our donors'' steadfast commitment to the hospital and the communities it serves."
In addition to raising funds, the Foundation disbursed nearly $11.2 million in 2004. The largest grants included:
- $ 6.4 million for clinical research
- $1.5 million for community programs
- $1.2 million for equipment and renovations
- $1 million for patient care
- $1 million for education
The mission of Barnes-Jewish Hospital Foundation is to help relieve pain and suffering by providing financial support to enable Barnes-Jewish Hospital to fulfill its purpose. The Foundation is registered in the state of Missouri as a 501(c) (3) public charity.
