Last year, St. Louis mom Sara Schwartz discovered she was pregnant with not one but two babies –– identical twin girls. Schwartz, who was already a mother of three (to children ages 12, 11 and 9) felt excited about her “bonus babies” on the way, despite it being a high-risk pregnancy.

Two new 12-story inpatient towers built by BJC HealthCare on the Washington University Medical Campus are aimed at enhancing the care and comfort of patients at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis Children’s Hospital and Siteman Cancer Center.

Barnes-Jewish is the only hospital in St. Louis and one of only five in Missouri to be designated a Baby-Friendly birth facility. 

Barnes-Jewish Hospital was recently recognized as a Missouri Breastfeeding Friendly Worksite through its proactive efforts to support employees who choose to breastfeed their children. Barnes-Jewish joins a growing number of Missouri businesses as a Breastfeeding Friendly employer, which provides private lactation rooms, time for breast pumping and other benefits to maintain breastfeeding after a mother returns to work.
