Rehabilitation Services

Multidisciplinary care is directed by experienced specialists, including physical, occupational and speech language pathologists who focus on working with patients who need intensive therapy. With the physician, our patients develop individualized treatment plans with a core emphasis on resident function and mobility. Our rehab gym focuses on independence and skills for life participation.

Our two kitchens, training bathroom, bathtub, stairs and ramp will help to ensure a successful return to home. Additionally, we offer a Lite Gait system designed to support a patient upright while walking.

The high-quality rehabilitation services at Barnes-Jewish Extended Care are some of the best in the area. Patients are cared for by Washington University physicians who specialize in rehabilitation. Because of this affiliation, we set higher expectations for our patients and have excellent outcomes.

More than 88 percent of our rehabilitation patients graduate to home or a more independent facility. The average length of stay at Barnes-Jewish Extended Care for rehab is approximately 18 days.

We have over 100 admissions a month in our 60-bed rehab unit, which demonstrates our expertise and experience in helping patients regain independence. Simply stated: our patients get better here - fast.

We offer complex, sub-acute care dedicated to orthopedic, post surgical, stroke recovery and other patients who require continuing treatment after hospitalization. Our multigenerational facility cares for rehabilitation patients from ages 18-105. Residents receive rehabilitation designed to support the highest level of independence.
