Every year, Barnes-Jewish Hospital and providers from all across the nation come together to teach about Asthma awareness. Asthma Educators from the Respiratory Care Services Inhale Support Group and Department came together within the community to enhance the knowledge and management for those who suffer from asthma, or who have friends or family touched by this disease. Informational pamphlets, books, asthma action packs, and spirometry testing was performed. To enhance learning, participants were given an opportunity to simulate an asthma attack by breathing through a tiny apparatus representing the airways. World Asthma Day had an exceptional turnout with the help from the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of St. Louis, The American Lung Association, and Barnes-Jewish Respiratory Care Services Department volunteers. Big thanks to all of the providers and companies who donated items which helped us to give back to the community. Mission accomplished!
