Surgeons at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis have restored some hand function in a quadriplegic patient with a spinal cord injury at the C7 vertebra, the lowest bone in the neck.

The OB-Gyn Clinic at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine has been awarded a $25,000 grant from The March of Dimes Missouri Chapter in support of its pre-natal care program for at-risk teens and women.

While multiple treatment options exist to treat PAD, new therapies at the Washington University and Barnes-Jewish Heart & Vascular Center are giving patients a minimally-invasive option. Endovascular therapy, using balloons and stents, is being used in a growing number of patients.

In a tremendous outpouring of support, $1.9 million was raised for the Cancer Frontier Fund last Saturday evening to fund life saving research at the Alvin J. Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington School of Medicine.

The Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine is a winner of a Community Impact Project grant from the Lance Armstrong Foundation’s LIVESTRONG program. Funding will support the Pillars4Life patient support program.

Twelve to 15 times a year, Washington University neurosurgeons at Barnes-Jewish Hospital put a patient to sleep, remove part of their patient’s skull, exposing their brain and then wake the patient up. These surgeons are performing one of the most dramatic and difficult of surgical procedures – awake craniotomy.

New technology purchased by several local groups, including Barnes-Jewish Hospital, is allowing the St. Louis City Fire Department to better treat heart attack patients in the area.
