ST. LOUIS – July 26, 2022 – Barnes-Jewish Hospital and its physician partners at Washington University School of Medicine have been named one of America’s “Best Hospitals” by U.S. News & World Report. Barnes-Jewish ranked No. 11 in the nation, moving up six spots from its previous position on the publication’s elite honor roll of the country’s top 20 hospitals. The report also ranked Barnes-Jewish as No. 1 in Missouri and No. 1 in the metro St. Louis area.

In addition to mavacamten, the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Center offers people with HCM a range of medical, interventional and surgical options.

An estimated 1 million people in the U.S. have hypertrophic cardiomyopathy—a heart condition also known as HCM—and many don’t know they have the condition until it’s too late.

As an inherited disease, HCM can run in families—and it can develop at any age. In many instances, HCM is undiagnosed until a significant heart problem occurs.

On Thursday, May 26, ahead of Memorial Day weekend, members of the BJC Veterans Connection group gathered with colleagues near Barnes-Jewish Hospital as a funeral procession prepared to leave the medical campus. Those in attendance did not know the patient, not even their name, but they felt a sense of duty.

A team of Washington University physicians at Barnes-Jewish Hospital is participating in a clinical investigation of a transcatheter mitral valve replacement (TMVR) system that offers an alternative to patients who are too high risk for replacement surgery.
