A $5 million gift from the Dr. Robert C. Atkins Foundation will establish a center at Washington University and Barnes-Jewish Hospital to advance the field of obesity medicine.

It used to be known as fibrocystic breast disease. But the name has changed because so many women have it. It''s now called "fibrocystic change," and symptoms include breast lumps and bumps along with tenderness.

Breast self-exam has been the subject of some controversy during the past three years. Two medical research studies, one in Canada and another in China, found that breast self-exam failed to reduce deaths from breast cancer. The Canadian study even showed that breast self-exam created anxiety and led to unnecessary biopsies.
