Amanda was diagnosed with Wilson's Disease, a genetic recessive disorder that causes copper to build up in the liver. Her liver was scarred from attempting to process the copper accumulation, and the damage was too advanced to treat with medication. She needed an emergency transplant. Shortly after her diagnosis, Amanda received her new liver at the Washington University and Barnes-Jewish Hospital Transplant Center.
