Susan Ell became executive director and vice president of The Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital in 2014. She is focused on fostering support to have the greatest impact on leading research and patient care. This support will further strengthen the hospital’s position as national leaders in medicine.
Prior to the Foundation, Ell served as the network vice president for philanthropy at SSM Health Care, as well as chief development officer for Advocate Health Care in Oak Brook, Ill. Her roles at Advocate Charitable Foundation included president, chief operating officer, vice president of development, and vice president of planned giving. In addition, Ell was director of planned giving at Children’s Memorial Foundation in Chicago and at Lake Forest College.
Ell started her career as a registered nurse. She then graduated from the University of Chicago with a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences. She also attended Washington University School of Law where she earned her juris doctor degree.
