OUR DIABETES SPECIALISTS

Led by world-renowned Washington University diabetes specialists from Barnes-Jewish Hospital, every member of the Diabetes Center team is dedicated to providing customized, comprehensive diabetes care. The team works closely with you and your primary care physician to create an individualized treatment plan.

Our physicians work closely with diabetes nurse practitioners, certified diabetes nurse educators and dieticians, certified foot care specialists and medical assistants. Together, they provide a collaborative and compassionate approach to diabetes management.

Garry Tobin, MD, medical director, endocrinologist
Dr. Tobin is well known throughout the Midwest as a specialist in treating diabetes. He is board certified in both internal medicine and endocrinology, and is the medical director of the Washington University Diabetes Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

 

A native of St. Louis, Dr. Tobin received his medical degree from Washington University. He trained in internal medicine and endocrinology at Washington University and Barnes-Jewish Hospital. After completing a fellowship in endocrinology and metabolism, he joined an academic private practice, seeing patients with diabetes for more than 15 years.

Kim Carmichael, MD, FACP, endocrinologist
Dr. Carmichael joined the Diabetes Center in 2006, bringing with him more than 25 years of specialized experience treating patients with diabetes.

Dr. Carmichael received his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia and completed his residency at St. Luke’s Hospital (Washington University) in St. Louis. After completing a fellowship in endocrinology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, he entered clinical practice and soon thereafter joined the full time medical education faculty at Forest Park Hospital (St. Louis University School of Medicine), where he was involved in full-time teaching in endocrinology/diabetes, general internal medicine and geriatric medicine.

Dr. Carmichael is board certified in endocrinology, geriatric medicine and internal medicine. He is an active member of the St. Louis Metropolitan Medical Society - present chair of the Ethics Committee and Continuing Medical Education Committee - and he is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.
