Imagine being a part of groundbreaking research and innovative treatments and procedures. That’s Acute Care Medicine at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Here, you’ll work with a multidisciplinary team that has more than a workplace in common—they believe in the power of innovation to make a difference in people’s lives.

Throughout the Acute Care Medicine patient care areas, nurses manage patients with a full range of clinical issues – from significant blood dyscrasias, advanced endocrine pathology, heart and renal failure, GI conditions, infectious disease to asthma and a multitude of other conditions and disease processes.

With a formalized residency program in place, these areas welcome nurses of all experiences, including new graduates.  Because of our patient acuity, we provide advanced training to bring new nurses to the highest level of functioning.

At Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Acute Care Medicine includes 300 beds and is divided into six, 50-bed units.  In order to develop a deeper expertise of a particular disease process and significant relationships with colleagues, the hospital strives to keep nursing and medical house staff teams together in caring for the same patient populations.

Each division is lead by a clinical nurse manager and lead charge nurse.  The management team is supported by a unit specific advanced practice nurse.  In a collaborative practice environment, the advanced practice nurse assists with the management of complex patients and acts as a clinical resource for the staff.  Additionally, each division is assigned a case manager, social worker, physical therapy technician, dietitian and pharmacist.  This multidisciplinary team works in conjunction with the physicians, nurses and patient care technicians to provide quality patient care.

Find the opportunity that’s right for you.
