FELLOWSHIP APPLICATION PROCESS

Thank you for your interest in the David A. Gee Administrative Fellowship at Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

To apply, you must have completed an MBA, MHA, MPH, MHSA, or equivalent coursework prior to the start of the fellowship in June or July 2027. This includes graduate programs that require a fellowship as part of their program requirements to receive a degree. We do not sponsor international visas.

The David A. Gee Fellowship at Barnes-Jewish Hospital application will open on June 22, 2026. Applications should be submitted to [email protected] as a PDF by September 2, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. CST. Applicants must submit the following documents in the order listed below as one combined PDF:

  1. Completed Administrative Fellowship Application Form
  2. Cover letter (one page)
    1. Addressed to the Barnes-Jewish Hospital Administrative Fellowship Advisory Committee
    2. Describes fellowship interest, career goals, organizational fit, and anticipated contributions
  3. Résumé
  4. Personal statement (maximum 1–2 pages)
    1. Briefly describe your interest in the David A. Gee Administrative Fellowship and the strengths and attributes you would bring as a fellow.
    2. Highlight the 2–4 key academic, professional, or personal experiences that have prepared you for an administrative fellowship.
    3. Describe how your past experiences have influenced your leadership style and prepared you to contribute effectively within a complex academic medical center.
    4. Explain how your personal values align with BJC HealthCare’s values (Kindness, Respect, Excellence, Safety, and Teamwork), including examples of how you demonstrate these values in practice.
  5. Three letters of reference
    1. Graduate program director or faculty member
    2. Current or former supervisor or employer
    3. One additional professional or academic reference
    4. Official graduate school transcript

A confirmation email will be sent within 24–48 hours of submission. Applicants who do not receive confirmation should resubmit their application to ensure receipt.

Applicants must have, or be on track to earn, a master’s degree (MBA, MHA, MHSA, or related field) prior to the fellowship start in July.

Graduates from programs accredited by CAHME, CEPH, or AACSB are preferred. However, applications from other master’s programs are also welcome for review.


 

You may apply as long as you have completed the classroom portion of your graduate program. If your program structure is different, please indicate this on your application form or contact the fellowship team for guidance.


 

Applicants should submit the completed application form and all supporting materials in a single PDF file to [email protected].


 

Letters of recommendation should ideally be attached to the application PDF. If a recommender prefers, they may submit their letter directly via email to the fellowship team. Letters do not need to be addressed to anyone and should highlight professional, academic, or leadership experience.


 

Applicants should attach transcripts directly to their application PDF. There is no need for third-party transcript submission from your school.


 

Within 24–48 hours of submission, applicants will receive a confirmation email. If no confirmation is received, applicants should resubmit their materials to [email protected], or reach out to a current fellow for guidance.


 

We are unable to support student visas, nor can we provide any type of visa sponsorship for individuals participating in the Administrative Fellowship Program.

Fellows are full-time, salaried employees of Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Compensation includes a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits, such as health insurance, retirement contributions, and paid time off.


 

Preliminary interviews are conducted virtually via video call. Candidates selected for on-site interviews will meet in-person with current fellows, fellow alumni, and Barnes-Jewish Hospital leadership over a two-day schedule in St. Louis. In-person participation for the duration of the on-site interview is expected for candidates.
