Radiation Oncology Careers

In Radiation Oncology at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, we integrate leading-edge treatment with research leadership and a commitment to furthering medical education. Here, you'll work with leading experts from the Siteman Cancer Center—the first and only NCI designated comprehensive cancer center in the St. Louis region.

Our staff of approximately 250 medical and allied health professionals helps us provide the most innovative and personalized care possible. The Department of Radiation Oncology houses a variety of therapeutic equipment, including:

  •   8 linear accelerators

  •   full brachytherapy suite

  •   Gamma Knife center

  •   2 CT simulators

  •   dedicated MRI unit

  •   proton facility due to open Fall 2012

DIVISIONS OF THE RADIATION ONCOLOGY CENTER:

The Clinical Division

This division is comprised of a medical team of physician staff as well as a support team of nurses, nurse coordinators, patient care technicians, administrative assistants and radiation therapists. The medical staff is sub-specialized by disease site allowing for focused patient care and clinical research.

The Physics Division

This division includes scientists, clinical physicists, and dosimetry professionals. The physics staff works closely with clinical staff in the care of patients, continuing quality improvement, and research activities.

The Cancer Biology Division

This division is comprised of scientists whose interests include molecular studies on DNA damage and repair, and antioxidants; the optimal use of X-rays, heat, and chemotherapeutic agents in the treatment of tumors; the role of genes in cell cycle modifications; and macrophage function.

The Bioinformatics Division

This division develops computer models for processing and analyzing patient outcome data used in both the clinical and research environments.

The Department of Radiation Oncology also supports two radiation therapy technology programs and a medical dosimetry program via affiliations with local universities.
