Health and Dental Insurance
Residents are eligible for enrollment in Barnes-Jewish Hospital group health insurance. Coverage starts after the first 30 days of employment.
Barnes-Jewish provides term life insurance at one times the annual salary at no cost to the resident.
Up to seven days will be authorized for travel to meetings.
Earned Time Off
Fifteen days of paid time off (Earned Time Off or ETO) are provided. These days are used for holidays, vacation days, and the first three days of any extended episode of illness. Personal leave does not need to be used for job interviews (see Authorized Absence). Hours will accumulate in the extended illness bank beginning on the first day of employment. A total of 8 days per year will accumulate. Hours from the extended illness bank will be used beginning the fourth consecutive day of any illness.
Up to 6 days will be authorized as absence to travel to job interviews. This absence must be approved by the program director and by the rotation preceptor.
The 6 annual holidays are New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas. Holiday service coverage is determined between resident and preceptor. Each resident will be scheduled to work one holiday. ETO hours are used for the remaining holidays.
Residents have privileges at the Bernard Becker Medical Library, located adjacent to Barnes-Jewish Hospital South. Copying privileges are provided. Office space and access to personal computers and the Internet are available. Access to patients' electronic medical records is available from the resident's desktop computer with VPN access at home. Free parking is provided to all employees.
