Surgical Treatments for Movement Disorders

For many patients with Parkinson disease, essential tremor or dystonia, medications often aren’t enough to control disabling symptoms. The most common neurosurgical procedures that we perform for these cases are deep brain stimulation (DBS) of the pallidum (internal segment of the globus pallidus), the subthalamus (subthalamic nucleus) or the thalamus (ventral intermediate nucleus). The Neuroscience Center is one of the top five centers in the United States in terms of the number of deep brain stimulation procedures performed, highlighting our expertise and reputation for this procedure.
